Henry's Plan

The giants are in a weird position this offseason, like a teenager going through puberty their uncertain what the future has in store for them, their also confused with their own identity. The giants are anchored by a powerful trio in the front of the rotation and they don't have much else(at the ML level) save Brian Wilson (pun intended) some interesting bullpen arm (Romo, Hinshawand, Matos and Espinelli) and thunder thigh Pablo Sandoval. They should be sotckpiling any young talent they can right now ala the A's and Nationals the past year however, the Giants are confused, very confused. Due to the fact that they play in the mediocre NL West and the fact that they have considerable recources they believe they have enough homegrown talent that they can throw money around and see a pony turn into a thoroughbred.

First:
Sign an established work horse reliever for the bullpen perhaps 2 a righty and a lefty. (Joe Beimel and Juan Cruz sounds delicious.

Second: Unload Aaron Rowand and his contract to the White Sox for:  Brian Anderson? Yes, the numbers are ugly very ugly however this would be seen as a salary dump and the Sox are looking to contend next year so it would not be all that shocking to see them make this type of a move. Also Anderson is young (25) and plays a better centerfield than Rowand, he's a former top prospect with decent potential and maybe just needs a change of scenery? Yes, an obp under .300 makes me think of Neifi Perez to but let's cut our losses and hope we strike gold.

Third: With the money that was unloaded with the Rowand deal sign Rafeal Furcal to a 3 year 36 million dollar deal with a 4th year club option. less face it, Burris is not a good shortstop on a winning team....................will finish later going to james bond!

With the resources to sign furcal and retain rowand, why not sign furcal AND keep Rowand. Maybe if we traded rowand for a third baseman the it would make more sense, because then Winn could move to center and Nate S could become the every day right fielder. But to add another outfielder when we have holes at realistically 2nd and 3rd, and trade away Rowand who is a great club house guy and was close to making the all-star game, doesn't make much sense. I usually side with you henry but I don't see the Giants getting better after that trade. Salary is not really an issue, were not the marlins, maybe we cant afford CC but we can afford both furcal and Rowand, especially with our relatively cheap rotation (except the one who shall not be named) and our completely homegrown bullpen.(signing Beimal a great idea) In a week NL WEST if we sign furcal and he doesnt get injured (which I hate to say isnt very likely) maybe somehow deal Sanchez and an MLB ready prospect for a Dan Uggla, clearing the way for our two AA phenoms later in the year, the Giants could definitely contend.

mike you put up a very compelling argument..........but your wrong hhahah jk! but let me explain my reasoning. True, we could afford both Furcal and Rowand at the same time. But you must realize Rowand was the least productive outfielder on our team last year and his defense is greatly regressing. And according to field bible made 12 less plays than the average center fielder last year 24 in the past two years. but you must realize this paying 4 years 48 million dollars is a very steep price to pay for a below average center fielder who had an Ops that was significantly lower than Fred Lewis AND Randy Winn. With Zito making 18 million a year and Lincecum to go through the roof soon plus Furcal would cost around I would say 36 million a year very very soon. let's not forget about Sanchez, Cain and Wilson hitting arbitration. my point being is that Rowand was a very very very bad signing he took advantage of a hitters haven in Philadelphia and laughed at Brian Sabean when he signed the check. Also i agree with you the Giants wouldn't get better but at the same time I think it's very reasonable to sacrifice the present when were not good and realistically won't compete next year for the future and take advantage of a time period where we could dominate. Yes you can say "Isn't signing Furcal defeating the purpose then?" Actually I would say no here's why. Burris is not ever going to be a very good defensive shortstop but he can be a great defensive 2b becuase it wont expose him arm. Furcal in my opinion is worth the money a gold glove caliber ss and offensive catylist who can hit .300 12 hr 55 rbi and 15 sb's he very well could still be a rock in our lineup by the time we compete for anything meaningful. What I'm saying is that Rowand isn't a 60 million dollar baseball player I'd be willing to bet that Brian Anderson out produces him within the next 4 seasons as well. Not next year, but that doesn't matter because next year is a wash. I'm saying that Anderson will be better long term and is much cheaper we will also need additional funds to resign Lincecum Cain Wilson at some point. Also I'd like to point out Furcal will sign for around wat Rowans is getting annually currently so dealing Rowand would cancel out the singing and keep the payroll very low still or where it currently is either way i'll make the 2nd part post later today.

dominating trio? i must've mistaken sanchez's 5+ ERA as something dominating imo....that's aside the point, its going to be harder than you think to give rowand away, when the A's traded away kendell they still had to pay most of the salary, so even if you trade rowand, i can still imagine the giants being stuck with some of his contract...if you package rowand with winn or something of that nature you should go after D. Murphy or some mid level prospect with upside, rowand's enough to warrant a respectable return, more so than friggin Anderson, Btdubs the salary dump thing is overrated for the gnats, its not like their workin under the gun in china basin...ps yeah mike, sanchez and an mlb ready prospect will have dan uggla in the bag hg(sarcasm), henry whats the eta on noonan and you're gonna have a dilemma if burris blocks noonan's natural position
